European Youth Parliament Munster Event

During the midterm, a number of the TYs took part in a four day virtual event of EYP!
European Youth Parliament Munster Event

From Thursday the 18th until Sunday the 22nd of February, a number of TY students had the brilliant experience of taking part in European Youth Parliament (EYP). Unfortunately, because of COVID we could not go to the actual event itself, so it was held online via Zoom!

EYP was run by Aidan Mamo and Sadhbh O’Riordan who organized all of the zoom calls and debates that took place and did an excellent job at doing so. As the course was online, my expectations were initially lowered for the course because I thought it would it harder to do online and not as great of an experience. However, after the first few hours on the first day of the event, I realized I was wrong!

Each EYP event is made up of twelve different committees that produce a resolution after being given their own specific topic. After the resolutions have been produced, there are twelve different debates where one committee proposes and explains their resolutions whilst the other eleven committees get to ask questions and debate on it. Following this, every delegate from every committee gets to vote For or Against the resolution.

It was an excellent course that encouraged you to share your own points of view but also to listen to others at the same time. As well as that, it pushed you to work as a team with people that you had only just met a couple of days before! This course required you to think fast, be confident in speaking, work hard and, most certainly, put you out of your comfort zone, all whilst having fun and making new friends!

Over all, I really enjoyed the four day event and would encourage other TY students to get involved in the future!
