Sport

All students are encouraged to partake in sporting activities after a hard day at the desk. Students and parents are frequently reminded of the importance of sport in a teenager’s life. It provides an ideal opportunity for social interaction; it promotes physical and mental health and its fun! The following sports are available to students after school hours, 4 - 5 p.m. and 3.30 - 4.30 p.m. (Matches are generally held during school time but many also take place after 4 p.m. on week days and at any time on weekends).

Basketball

  • Training for all teams takes place after school most evenings.
  • Our school has won 12 All Ireland A Basketball titles in the last few years. Many of our students have represented Ireland on National Squads and Regional Squads. In 2007, our Cadette U-16’s represented Ireland in the World High School games in Pau.
  • Our under 19 A team were All Ireland League Finalists in 2009. Katie Shanahan and Emma Carey were also selected for the Irish Under 18 team in 2009.
  • Past pupils Gráinne and Niamh Dwyer are/were Irish Internationals.

Hockey

Hockey training takes place Monday-Thursday on our all weather hockey pitches or on local astro turf pitches. Pupils participate in Munster School Girls League and Munster Cup competitions in Minor B, Under 15 B, Junior B and Senior C. First years participate in Blitz competitions.

Camogie

Camogie TeamPupils take part in Senior, Intermediate, Junior and Blitz competitions. Many players represent the school in several categories. 2018 has seen our students take the Munster A Camogie title.

Training for pupils takes place once a week in St Patrick’s College, Thurles.

Gaelic Football

Football TeamPupils take part in Senior and Junior and Blitz competitions. Our Senior team are currently in the All ilreand Football Final and have previously won Munster and All Ireland titles. Training for pupils takes place once a week after school in St Patrick’s College, Thurles.

Rugby

As Ladies Rugby is one the fastest growing sports in Ireland Presentation Thurles have embraced this by Introductory Tag Rugby which is a non contact sport to the TY Sports Programme.

Athletics

Athletics is available after school on a Thursday evening from 4-5pm. We have a rich tradition in Athletics and we have been successful at Munster levels.

Soccer

Indoor soccer in our sports complex proves to be a very popular lunch time activity where students can compete in soccer leagues. First year participate in Tipperary Futsal competition which is an indoor League. Under 15’s participate in the South East League and Under 16’s in the Munster Cup.

We are currently All Ireland Senior A Champions and we encourage both junior and senior students to represent the school at both levels.

Dance / Aerobics

The well equipped gym and mirror walled dance studio are available to all students every evening until 6pm.

There are also fitness classes available after school.

Many students, particularly the hard working senior students who are anxious to unwind, take advantage of the facilities to work out and de stress.

Spikeball

Transitions years participate in a six week spike ball coaching course with Volleyball Ireland and organised an Interschools Blitz’ among surrounding primary schools.
