Pres Thurles Irish Debaters win Munster Final
Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge á céiliúradh againn ar scoil an tseachtain seo agus ár bhFoireann Dhíospóireachta ag céiliúradh leis. Comhghairdeas le Orlaith Whitehead (Captaen na Foirne), Amelia Treacy agus Pippa Quigley a bhuaigh Craobh na Mumhan sa Chomórtas Díospóireachta Ghael Linn i Luimneach an tseachtain seo caite! Phléigh na cailíní i bhfábhar an rúin;'Tá polasaithe an Chomhaontais Ghlais ag déanamh maitheasa don chaighdeán maireachtála in Éirinn inniu'. D'éirigh leo ar an lá i gcoinne Scoil Naomh Áine, Tiobraid Árann, Meánscoil Bríd Naofa, Ciarraí agus Ardscoil Uí Urmholtaigh, Corcaigh.
Tá na cailíní ag dul ar aghaidh anois go dtí Craobh na hÉireann!
Comhghairdeas libh a chailíní. Táimíd fíor-bhródúil asaibhse. Guímíd gach rath ar an obair. Meánscoil na Toirbhirte abú! Míle buíochas dá múinteoir Gaeilge, Sinéad Lewis.
Badminton
Over the last number of years, badminton at Presentation Thurles has gone from strength to strength, bolstering over sixty girls who play casually and competitively for our school. For those playing competitively, the first main event of the 2023 calendar was the Tipperary Schools’ Championship, which was held in Templemore on the 28th February last.
Our 1st Year girls were unfortunate in the battle for the U14 Tipperary title, losing to a strong Borrisokane side, who had three girls playing for Tipperary at U15 County level. The Pres U14 team on the day included Mairéad Duggan, Neasa Dwan, Paulina Kwapinska and Patricia Dyl Phillips.
Presentation Thurles U16 girls fought hard throughout the day making some spectacular rallies in their games. The girls were relentless in their efforts and saw past tough opposition from Carrick on Suir and Coláiste Phobal Roscrea, winning the U16 Tipperary title. Izzy O’Hora, Orla Ryan, Eimear Duggan and Ella Curran made up this strong Pres side.
Our U19s had comfortable wins against Ursuline Thurles and Presentation Ballingarry in their group stage but faced stern competition when up against Our Lady’s Templemore who have some great up and coming players. The U19 final versus Coláiste Phobal Roscrea was one for the history books with both sides leaving everything on the court. Luckily, it was the Pres girls who came out victorious. The U19 team consisted of Aoife Barry, Cara Delaney, Molly O’Brien and Sarah Byrne.
The very best of luck to the U16s and U19s who will be representing our school and Tipperary in the Munster finals on the 10th March at the University of Limerick.
TY Business strikes again!
Well done to our TY Mini Company team "Cookie Couture" who were awarded "Best Business Plan" at the LEO Student Enterprise County Finals held in TUS Thurles on March 6th. The girls’ novel idea of artisan cookie dough that is both sustainably wrapped and also vegan friendly was professionally presented on the day. This hardworking team was made up of Emily Carroll, Anna O'Brien, Grace Flanagan, Katie Lanigan and Sarah Byrne. Well done, ladies and congratulations to their mentor, Ms Elaine Corbett!
Basketball
Well done to all of our 1st and 2nd Year Basketballers who played in a very entertaining blitz last week with Presentation Portlaoise in our Sports Complex. Well done to all students involved and to their coaches, Martin Hehir and Sinéad Phillips.
Hockey
It has been a busy couple of weeks for our hockey girls. Last week, our Junior Bs played a good Crescent Comprehensive side in the Cup Quarterfinal. They played some great hockey but Crescent came out on top with the win. Our Minor Bs have progressed to the Munster Final after beating Midleton on shuttles in what was an exciting and great game of hockey from both teams. Well done to all of the players involved in both teams and to their coaches, Ms Marie Flanagan and Ms Kora Kerrane. A special ‘Thank You’ to past pupil, Siobhán Ryan, who umpired for us in the Minor game.
