Ceiliúradh CEIST
On the Feast of St Brigid, our school held a beautiful prayer service in the Cathedral as part of our Ceiliúradh CEIST celebrations. It was a time of prayer and reflection for our whole school community during which we honoured St Brigid. Everyone was encouraged to do ‘One Good Deed’ going forward. A huge ‘Thank You’ to our Religion and Music departments for planning this lovely and poignant service and for co-ordinating all of the various Ceiliúradh CEIST activities over the last few days. Thanks to all of our students who volunteered to participate in the ceremony. We were also delighted to be able to present to Margaret Gleeson, from the local St Vincent de Paul, a cheque for €800, which was fundraised and organised by our Students’ Council just before Christmas. Sincere gratitude to everyone who donated so generously to this very worthy local cause.
Equestrian
On Sunday, January 29th, three of our Pres Thurles equestrian teams competed in the interschool equestrian show jumping competition, which was held in Tipperary Equestrian Centre. Two of our teams competed in the open class and one team in the novice class. Congratulations to all of our students who participated in this event and proudly represented us: 1st Years Lucy Doyle, Neasa Dwan, Sophie Thompson and Mairéad Duggan; 2nd Years Zara McCarthy, Emma O’Meara and Orla Duggan, who competed in the individual class; and our 3rd Years Sarahjane O’Meara, Zoe Penfold, Molly Healy, Amber Thompson, Sarah Brennan and Izzy O’Hora. Well done to our open team who placed second in a very competitive class and a big ‘Thank You’ to their teacher, Ms Sinéad Glascott, who has played an essential role in nurturing the girls and co-ordinating the teams. Well done, girls, we are very proud of you.
Hockey – Senior Cup
Our senior hockey team had a tricky encounter with Villiers in the Senior Cup game that we hosted last week. Following a close encounter, our Pres girls came out on top by a score line of 2-1. Well done to all of the panel members and to the girls’ coaches, Ms Marie Flanagan and Ms Kora Kerrane. #presthurlesabú
Basketball
Well done to our Cadette Basketball team who won a Plate final against St Anne’s last week in Clonmel. It was a close game with our girls emerging victorious by three points. Thank you to their coach, Martin Hehir.
French Exchange
We extend a very warm ‘Bienvenue’ to our French Exchange students, who arrived into Dublin Airport last week. The nine French students have been paired up with a 5th Year student each and will stay with them for the next two weeks. The girls have been immersing themselves into school life with cultural (Irish dancing), sporting (camogie) and practical activities (making of St Brigid’s crosses) over the last week or so. Thank you to the co-ordinator, Ms Sinead Glascott, for organising this exchange.
