Pres Thurles 1st Year student to play in National Soccer Final

Best of luck to our 1st Year student, Ciara Breslin, who plays for Portlaoise AFC in Sunday’s SFAI National Final against Greystones, Co. Wicklow. Everyone in Pres Thurles will be shouting for you, Ciara. Go n-éirí an t-ádh leat!

Challenge to Change

As part of our ‘Challenge to Change’ project, TY students from Naomh Éanna collected old cards and recycled them into new ones. They made a variety of cards for Christmas, birthdays and anniversaries. The girls created posters to display around the school upon which they requested donations of old materials such as cards, bows, ribbons, tape and paper cut-out decorations. The girls then started to re-use them by cutting out decorations from them and sticking them on to the new cards. Following a brief advertising campaign in the school, they were then sold for €1 each. The girls raised €150, which they then donated to local cancer support centre, Suir Haven. Suir Haven offers emotional support, practical help and information to anyone with a cancer diagnosis, their carers and their family members. Suir Haven relies completely on fundraising and voluntary contributions. Our girls in Naomh Éanna felt that this was a very worthy cause to donate their money to. The girls invited Anna Ryan, manager of Suir Haven, in to the school and they had the great privilege of listening to her talk about the services that they provide for people. Their volunteers give of their time generously and they are very grateful for the enormous help that they receive through local fundraising and donations. Well done to all of the girls for the great work that they did and to their teacher, Ms Trisha McElgunn.

Class Trips

Our 1st Year students had a fantastic time on their recent trip to Bunratty Folk Park. There was plenty of entertainment, lots to see and many great memories were made as the end of their first year as Pres Girls draws to a close. Thanks to their Year Head, Ms Yvonne O’Sullivan, for organising the trip and to the teachers who travelled with them.

Our TYs embraced the challenge of an active day along the Suirside Blueway this last week. In blustery and wet conditions, the girls completed a 24 kilometre round trip on foot from Clonmel to Kilsheelan. In true Pres spirit, the girls demonstrated perseverance and determination to complete this final challenge of their Transition Year. Thanks to their Co-ordinator, Ms Sinéad Glascott, for organising this event and to the teachers who accompanied the girls.

Our LCA students also embarked on their final trip of the year this week. The girls travelled up to Dublin Zoo, where they got to see all of their favourite animals. Following a tasty lunch, the group then headed to Liffey Valley for some retail therapy. It was a lovely way for the girls to finish their year. Many thanks to their Co-ordinator, Ms Susan King, for organising this trip for them.
