All-Ireland Finals Fever!
The excitement levels are at fever pitch here in Presentation Secondary School Thurles as we prepare to compete in no less than FOUR All-Ireland competitions before the end of this month!! At the time of writing, our Junior Camogie team are making final preparations for their epic encounter against St Brigid’s in Callan on what will be a very different St Patrick’s Day for the girls, their coaches, their families and their team of supporters. The next national final takes place for our Senior A Soccer team as they take on their arch rivals, Claregalway, in Limerick on Tuesday, March 22nd. A week later on March 29th, our Junior Gaelic Footballers will battle it out for the honour of becoming All-Ireland champions. Time and opponents will be confirmed later. Last but certainly not least, our U-14 Badminton team will compete in the All-Ireland Badminton Schools’ Finals in Gormanstown on March 30th when they will represent Munster in the Finals.
What an amazing achievement for our girls and their respective mentors! All of the hard work and dedication is paying off. We are VERY proud of each and every one of them!

French Exchange
Last week we bade ‘Adieu’ to our French Exchange students, who had become ‘Pres Girls’ for their two-week exchange trip. The French students, from Gorges near Nantes, immersed themselves in our culture and in our Pres School Spirit! The girls learned how to do Irish dancing, how to hurl, how to play the tin whistle and even enjoyed a cultural evening of traditional music and singing in the well renowned Jim of the Mills. Our 5th Year students hosting our French visitors played a ‘friendly’ basketball match, prior to which our exchange students gave a passionate rendition of their famous national anthem, ‘La Marseillaise’. Many thanks to our French teachers for organising this exchange and making our French visitors so welcome.
This week some of our own 5th Year French students travelled out to Nantes to commence their two-week exchange experience. Bon courage les filles!
Hockey
Congratulations to our Minor Hockey team who won a titanic battle against Mungret in the Munster Cup Quarter-final last week. Mungret had pressed ahead at half time with a score line of 0 – 1 but our Pres girls did not let that dishearten them. Our girls demonstrated tremendous work rate and passion battling in the torrential rain and we finally broke through Mungret’s strong defence line in dramatic fashion with 30 seconds left on the clock! A draw at full time resulted in shuttles, when 1st Year student, Molly Carr, stepped up in goals with her debut. Our Pres girls took the win on shuttles 3 – 2 in a nail-biting finish! Well done to the whole team and their coaches Ms Kora Kerrane and Ms Marie Flanagan.
Formula Female
Huge congratulations to Izzy O’Hora (2nd Year), who placed third in the Munster provincial formula female driving competition last week in Cork. Well done also to Niamh O’Gorman and to Molly O’Brien in what was a great day’s driving! Many thanks to Ms Sinéad Glascott for organising this exciting experience and opportunity our girls.
Soccer
Well done to our 1st Years who beat our neighbours, Ursuline Thurles, with a score line of 4 – 3 in the Munster Quarter-final last week. Our goal scorers were Ciara Breslin, who snatched a hat-trick, and Molly Quinn.
Congratulations to our U17 soccer players who qualified for the Munster Final last week beating Kenmare 6 – 1, with goals from Molly O’Dwyer (2), Chloe Shorley (2), Aoife Shelly and Ciara Breslin. We now look forward to a mouth-watering Munster Final against our neighbours, Ursuline Thurles. Well done to each of the teams and to their coaches, Mr Barry Ryan and Mr Cian Treacy.
