Pres Thurles: All-Ireland Champions in Junior B Camogie
HUGE congratulations to our Junior B Camogie team who were crowned All-Ireland champions on St Patrick’s Day defeating a very organised St Brigid’s team in Callan. Having fallen behind by five points in the initial quarter of the game, our Pres girls fought hard, and through sheer grit and determination, clawed their way back into the game and established a narrow lead before half time. The natural skills of the Pres players shone through and our girls overpowered their opposition in the second half. The final score was Pres Thurles 3 – 7 St Brigid’s Callan 1 – 4. What a spirited and energetic performance from the whole team and a result that they thoroughly deserved. Well done to Caitlin Shelly, who received ‘Player of the Match’ award. We are very proud of each and every one of our girls on the panel and their mentors, Ms Cáit Devane and Mr Cian Treacy. We would also like to send our ‘Congratulations’ to our neighbours, the Ursuline, on their super All-Ireland Junior A Camogie victory! Comhghairdeas leo.
All-Ireland Final – Senior A Soccer
Commiserations to our valiant and brave Senior A Soccer squad who were defeated by Claregalway in Limerick last week, in what was a very closely contested match. Nothing separated the two sides at half time. In the second half, Claregalway snatched the lead with a well worked shot. This was further compounded with a quick second goal giving the Tribeswomen a two goal lead in the space of three minutes. Unfortunately, our girls were unable to reverse the deficit in spite of giving it their all. We are very proud of each and every one of you and thanks to their coaches Mr Barry Ryan and Mr Cian Treacy.
Gaelic Football All-Ireland Final
Best of luck to our Junior B Gaelic Football team and to their coaches, Mr Cian Treacy and Mr Barry Ryan, as they prepare to take on Loreto Grammar School from Omagh in Ballinasloe in yet another All-Ireland Final! Beir bua agus beannacht! Match report to follow in next week’s paper #presthurlesabú.
Daffodil Day Fundraiser
Our 5th Year students sold pins and daffodils in school all of last week to help raise funds for a very worthy cause, The Irish Cancer Society. Please support this very worthy cause. Thanks to Ms Margaret Finn for co-ordinating this important annual fundraiser.
Seó Bóthair Roadshow
The Seó Bóthair was organised and held for TY students. The aims of this workshop were to inform them of common misconceptions around the Irish language; to inform them of the many job opportunities that are available as an Irish speaker and the many benefits associated with speaking Irish daily. The workshop was provided by Conradh na Gaeilge with Róisín Ní Chinnéide as the workshop host. Thank you to Mr Colin Doyle for organising this interesting event.
Equestrian
Well done to our Equestrian team who placed 3rd in Coilog, Newbridge last week. This team included Izzy O’Hora, Emma O’Meara, Molly Healy and Evelyn Fahey. It was great to see Pres girls all over the country! A big ‘Thank You’ to past pupil and former Pres boarder, Niamh Murphy, for her support in Newbridge. #presthurlesabú.
