Facilities For Boarders
As well as good study opportunities, boarders are also encouraged to develop important life skills, such as the ability to live together in harmony, to be accepting and caring for one another, to practise the Gospel values of kindness, forgiveness and generosity.
Like a plant, each boarder is nurtured and encouraged to blossom to her full potential and to become a mature, confident, respectful young woman building life-long friendships along the way.
Sleeping Areas
Sleeping areas for the boarders are designed for calmness, good order and comfort.
Every dormitory contains a number of rooms with 2 beds in each room, while Leaving Cert girls love their single rooms. Each room is bright, comfortable and airy with its own washing facilities and with a shower area attached to each dorm.
Two female supervisors are on duty throughout the night to care for the girls, while security patrols the grounds outside the Boarding School at night. Since a good night’s sleep is essential for the health and wellbeing of the boarders, lights are out for Juniors at 10pm and for Seniors at 11pm. Mobile phones are not allowed in the dorm.
Study Facilities
The Boarding School has one study hall. Each student has her own private study area in it.
Meals
The dedicated kitchen staff provide a variety of delicious, home-cooked meals for breakfast, dinner and supper each day. Snacks are provided after school and after study.
Boarders are encouraged to take fruit to school for the morning break. All nutritional needs are provided for e.g. vegetarian, gluten free and other dietary needs. Mobile phones are not permitted at meal times to encourage conversation and social interaction.
Health and Wellbeing
A Sick Bay is available if a boarder feels unwell during the day. A qualified nurse looks after her and administers medication with the permission of her parent. If necessary and if the parent wishes, the sick child is taken to the local doctor.
In general, boarders are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle, to avail of the school’s outstanding sport facilities after school and to take plenty of fresh air and exercise.
Our state of the art sporting facilities are second to none, supporting the students’ physical and mental health..
Management
The Presentation Sisters are the Trustees of the Boarding School. They work with the Board of Management who is responsible for the overall management of the Boarding School.
The Manager, Aisling Kiely, and the Deputy Manager, Marie Byrne, run the Boarding School on a day-to-day basis. Other Boarding Personnel include Day and Night Supervisors, Kitchen Manager and staff, Cleaning and Maintenance Staff.
All of these form a dedicated team which ensures the highest standards of care for our boarders.
Train and Bus Service
Thurles is on the main railway line and is extremely well served with trains to and from Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Limerick and Galway. Boarders are transported to and from Thurles Train Station.
A private bus service takes boarders to and from Kildare Village via Portlaoise. Buses to other areas can be arranged should the need arise.
