Badminton :
Four teams travelled to Clonmel last week to take part in the Tipperary Schools Badminton Championship 2012. The girls displayed a high level of competition and overcame Ursuline Thurles, Presentation Clonmel and Carrick-on Suir in the pool stages. It was a great achievement to have three teams in the final but Carrick-on-Suir’s first team who had a stronghold of Mooncoin club players were just too strong in the U-14 and U-19 finals. The U-16 final was a closer affair against Loreto Clonmel. A very exciting doubles game took place where Loreto emerged winners on a score line of 27-25. Presentation also had a good win in one of the singles games. The three teams from Presentation were presented with Runners Up trophies and all students thoroughly enjoyed a very well run competition that day.
1st Year Girls Munster Soccer League:
Cashel Community School v Presentation Thurles
Presentation Thurles travelled the short distance to Cashel on Friday last to take on Cashel Community School in the curtain raiser of the 1st Year Munster Soccer League.
Presentation Thurles, boasting the All-Ireland Futsal runners-up players along with newly discovered talent, showed their superiority from the off and it wasn’t long before they had taken the lead. Goals from Hazel McAullife, captain Sarah McKevitt, Cara O’ Connor and Shonagh Cleary made the task impossible for the home side and then further strikes from Norah Kennedy and Niamh O’ Mahony compounded their misery.
The game ended 15 – nil to the girls in red. Presentation Thurles are the team to beat in the Munster league and cup this season.
The girls are training hard as they prepare for the next league game and the upcoming knock-out cup fixture.
