This week 5th and 6th Year Agricultural Science students visited Mr. Padraig Moran’s farm in Borrisokane as part of their Agricultural Science project. It was a very educational day, where the girls learned about beef suckler and sheep farming while getting a close look at the various beef and sheep breeds present. Other topics discussed included farmyard layout, machinery, hygiene, vaccination and dosing and management of calves and lambs from birth to slaughter. Also discussed on the trip was grassland management including silage manufacture, REPS, clover advantages, fertiliser application, reseeding and grass varieties. The students were able to take lots of photographs for their project and the tour concluded with a diary of the farm year and a question and answer session. An informative and worthwhile day, this farm visit gave the girls a true appreciation of where our food comes from –‘From farm to fork’.

Last Friday our LCVP students organised a fantastic fancy dress fashion show in aid of CanTeen. CanTeen is an organisation that supports teenagers and their families living with cancer. The event was a great success with fancy dress appearances from Jedward, Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga! Much fun and enjoyment was had by all who attended. Overall the LVCP class raised €580 in aid of CanTeen. Well done girls!
